On November 25, 2025 the two Senior Choirs from Hudson and Trafalgar performed at the CKNW’s Kids’ Fund day on radio. Choirs from around the city are invited to be background music for an hour each.
Hudson was on from 10 AM to 11 AM and Trafalgar was on from 1 PM to 2 PM.
This is a most unusual singing gig for anyone, let alone children’s choirs. CKNW supplies a fancy chartered bus to get the kids to The Hotel Vancouver. For a lot of kids this is one of the best parts.
Once downtown, the kids are held in the “Green Room” until they are brought up to the top floor foyer.

It feels like there is no audience because the people hearing the kids are listening on the radio. How the radio announcers stay focused with the distractions is wild, but they assured the kids and Miss Catherine that it’s a wonderful part of CKNW’s fundraising efforts.

To have an idea of what it’s like to perform there, I recorded this video. Notice the sheer number of distractions that the kids had to avoid focusing on in order to sing.
It is a revised Wendat Carol, formerly known as the Huron Carol. The poetry was rewritten by Metis artist Dana Lynn Seaborn and is set to the tune arranged by the English and Canadian composer Healey Willan. The children receive a history lesson along with learning a new song!
I wanted to take a moment to thank the parent volunteers and the staff at CKNW for making this such a powerful and smooth outing for the kids.
